    Obituary
    • From The People, June 27, 1895:

      Death of John Heber Murray.

Hundreds of The People's readers throughout the state and country who are personally acquainted with Mr. S. W. Murray, the well-known car manufacturer of Milton, and thousands who know him as an earnest Prohibitionist and generous-hearted Christian and philanthropist, will learn with regret of the death of ´╗┐his only son, John Heber Murray, which occurred on the 18th inst., of tubercular consumption. The deceased was a young man of great promise.

He was a manly man, his magnificent physique bore evidence that dissipation and excess were unknown, and his daily life showed his purity of heart and thought. He was a loyal friend and a magnanimous adversary. Liberally educated, broadened by refined and elevating associations, he would have adorned any position in life he might have been called to fill. His taking off in early manhood was one of those unfathomable mysteries of the Creator whose wisdom we dare not question.

    Obituary
    • From the Evening Sentinel, Carlisle, Pa., June 18, 1895 :

A well-known citizen passes away at the age of twenty-six years. John Heber Murray, whose illness has been previously noted from time to time, died at his home on South West street, at seven o'clock this ´╗┐morning.

The deceased was the son of S. W. Murray, of Milton, Pa., and was a native of that place. He took a five years' course in Dickinson preparatory and college and graduated in 1889. In college he was very prominent and popular and took a leading part in athletic exercises.

Mr. Murray took a three years' course in mechanical engineering at the Stevens' Institute from which he graduated in 1892. He was then appointed to a position in the engineers office of the New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, and he took up his residence in New Haven. After remaining there about a year his health broke down and he found that rest was necessary. He removed to Carlisle and took up his residence on South West street. To the surprise of all, consumption developed and its course was rapid.

Mr. Murray was a cultured gentleman, greatly admired by all, of fine physique and apparently good health, he has been cut down in in his prime and his death is as sad as it was unexpected. His many years residence here made him virtually a son of Carlisle and as such he was admired and loved.
