Fire - Milton Steam Tannery

Milton Steam Tannery after the fire

This picture was taken from Elm Street, looking southeast toward Mahoning Street. The stack from the tannery power plant is in the center, and the boilers can be seen to the right. In front of the boilers was the bark furnace. The main tannery building, including the boilers, ran to the left along Elm Street. A survey map of the property, drawn by a fire insurance company about six months before the fire, can be seen here.

The Trinity Lutheran Church is to the right, on Mahoning Street. The building in front of it is probably the George Baker Brewery, which was directly across Mahoning from the church. A bottle from that brewery can be seen here.
